Guidance through Subconcious to Concoius awareness
A unique writing exercise inspired by Poet Rupi Kaur
I hope this message finds you all well. Recently, I stumbled upon a fascinating writing technique inspired by the reowned poet Rupi Kaur, which I believe could greatly benefit your creative process. The exercise involves delving into subciouncious traumas, extracting emotions, and transforming them into profound literary expressions. During my own experiment, I kept an eye in the timer, and spent 2-3 minutes focused on themes that resonated with me on a deep level. So i started writing a stanza about subconious trauma’s that emotionally guided my pen to explore hidden fears and vulnerabilities.
The order went on like this:
Struggling to breath
Darkness
Busy crowded areas
Broken heart
Loneliness
Not loved.
As per the exercise guideliness, I randomly selected 4 of the words above list
Struggle to breath
Darkness
Crowded areas busy with people
Loneliness
Then I proceeded to freewrite four paragraphs, incorporating each word in chronological order. The result was a raw and introspective narrative that offered a glimpse into my innermost thoughts and feelings.
And it goes like this…
The crack in the room had etched itself into my body. Even though there was a small gap of air above the ceiling, it felt impossible to breathe, especially when reliving those particular events. The moments that shaped who I am today, but the journey to get here was anything but easy. Each time, I felt hollow, overwhelmed by the same worry. My heart would seize with the same shock over and over. My body, weighed down, felt trapped in an endless cycle of exhaustion and emptiness. “Breathe, Nil, breathe,” I reminded myself.
Even as I navigate the darkness, I know that eventually, I’ll find myself in a better place because of the struggles I've endured. Just breathe, Nil.
Never stop, and never will.
Even when others try to silence you, remain calm but speak your truth. Be patient, but never fear using your voice. There will always be people with negative intentions who don’t have your best interest at heart, but they will come and go. Patience and a clear mind are your greatest tools.
Don’t fall into the habits of those on the wrong path. Don’t rush to escape the darkness, panicking with worry. Instead, stay self-aware. Look through the shadows and accept what’s happening as it unfolds. Running around like a headless chicken won’t help; the world is already chaotic enough. It’s too noisy to hear the good things that guide you toward the lessons life has to offer.
You have learned so much on this journey, even with a heart that’s been broken for many years. The days you felt lonely, Nil. It was difficult, but don’t let the mistakes of the past weigh you down. Learn from them, and move on. Don’t drag them into the next chapter of your life.
Allow yourself to love and trust again, starting with yourself first. Once you do, you’ll begin to see the beauty around you and finally start living. Pause sometimes and take a break, reminding yourself that life is a pleasure meant to be lived in the present. The Japanese Zen believers call this ‘En’—the beauty of living in this moment, right now, and nothing more.
Also remember that little girl, Nil, the one you left behind. Take her hand and guide her, side by side with the 33-year-old you’ve become. Teach her about the abundance of life, the wisdom of nature, and the path of love, personal space, freedom, and simple happiness. That’s when the light will break through the air, your eyes will open wide, and you’ll finally see the sun warming your skin, sending a tingle through your body as you realize you can take another deep breath. The crack above will have widened into an open ceiling filled with flowers.
Breathe, Nil, breathe. A new stage of life has arrived.
I was amazed by the power of the writing exercise to unlock creativity and emotional depth in my subcouncious fears. I think everyone can either buy the book: Rupi Kaur - Healing through words, and go through the exercises for themselves or unleash your emotions onto a page with this exercise, and watch as your words come alive with authenticity and depth.
I would love to hear about your experience with this exercise and the insights it brings to your writing. Feel free to share your reflections or any writing pieces inspired by this technique. Let’s embrace this opportunity for growth and self-discovery through the art of writing.
Wishing you all endless creativity and inspiration on your writing endeavors.
